Youth Program (3-17)

Ballet Arts & Fitness offers Classically Ballet training in a nurturing yet disciplined environment to ages 3-17.    This is designed to be a recital free and stress free learning environment.  We do offer an in house event in May for parents to see how their children have grown and progressed throughout the year.  We have a  boutique program in that we keep our classes small and personal so your child will have plenty of attention and corrections to progress at their best level.  Your child will be taught by highly trained ballet instructors with years of teaching experience.  The classes are enrolled by Fall or Spring term yet there are no registration fees. We also offer week long summer dance camps.  Class descriptions per age, schedules, and pricing are listed below.  Please see our underprivileged student opportunities below.

The Pre-teen/Teen classes are designed for ages 10-17 for the basic beginner dancer in Ballet I (no experience)  to the advanced beginner in Ballet II (1-3 years experience). Once the dancer has reached a higher level of dance they are placed in our open division.  We understand that the teen years can be a difficult time and as such we are more lenient on the dress code to allow for individuality while staying focused on the discipline of classical ballet technique and traditional class etiquette.  It is important to us to nurture confidence and self expression as well top notch dancing!

Technique Classes

This level of class is designed for the 7-9 year old dancer.  We will start focusing more on the proper execution of technique and expand their knowledge of steps and placement.  A one hour Ballet Technique class is offered as well as an hour long , tap and jazz combo class.

Prima Ballerina/Premier Danseur Ballet Program is designed for ages 3/4, 5/6. We offer 1 hour long combo Ballet/Tap classes for this age group.  We create a fun learning environment with imaginative games to get your child learning and creating.  Your child will learn the basics of ballet, musicality, build coordination, utilize their imagination, and gain confidence in their expanding knowledge.  We will be giving them a foundation for excellence in dance.

The Intermediate to  Advanced level teen dancer is invited to join the adult open classes.  Please see that page for schedule.  These classes are ongoing and no enrollment is necessary.  Dancers can pay for a “drop in class” or purchase a class card for a discounted class price.  Pricing is listed below.

Severe Weather Policy

It is the policy of this studio to follow the City of Tuscaloosa School System for severe weather closures whenever possible. This applies to all weather situations including but not limited to the threat of wintry messes and tornados.

This means if the city school system lets out early, cancels after school program, or is closed for the entire day the studio will also be closed during those times. If the schools are on a delayed start the studio will also be closed during those hours. If the threat occurs outside of school activity hours I will make a conservative call based on the weather report as it is presented.

Forecasts often miss the mark but I do believe it is better to be home safe than take chances getting to the studio. Thanks you for your understanding.

Suggested Attire

Ballet– tights and leotard or unitard, ballet shoes, dance belt for male dancers.   Shorts, skirts, tank-tops, or dance warm-ups are allowed over leotards.  No baggy clothing as it is difficult for the dancer to see their proper body alignment. *** It is acceptable to wear tight fitting Lycra short shorts (commonly called booty shorts) over a leotard and tights; however, it is not acceptable to wear them with bare legs at Ballet Arts.
